Mary Wurtz passed away on April 30, 2011, at the age of 93, at Parkland Place in Melfort. Mary was born on September 2, 1917 to Joseph W. and Elizabeth Waldner on the family farm near Langham. She married Andrew Wurtz Jr. on October 23, 1938 and they farmed south of Dalmeny. They had three sons – Leo, Wayne, and Bryan. In May 1953, the family moved to Sutherland. Andrew worked at the University of Saskatchewan and Mary worked at the Forestry Farm. Mary retired in 1982 at the age of 65 after working for 29 years at the Forestry Farm. In June 2004, Mary moved to Melfort. For 6 months, she lived at Maranatha Manor then, she resided at Nirvana Assisted Living for 4 ½ years and at Parkland Place for 1 ½ years. Mary was predeceased by her parents Joseph W. and Elizabeth Waldner; her husband Andrew; her brothers Jake, Fred, Henry, Joe L., and Leonard; her sisters Grace, Beatrice, Lois, Dorothy, Bernice, and an infant girl; her brothers-in-law Jake B. Waldner, Joe D. Wurtz, Joe Hum, Emil Wurtz, and Danny Wurtz; her sister-in-law Geraldine Wurtz; her nephews Darrell Wurtz and Garnet Wurtz; and her great-nephew Preston Waldner. She is survived by her brothers Menno and Eddie; brother-in-law Jim Brower; sisters-in-law Susan Waldner, Evelyn Waldner, Elizabeth Waldner, and Emily Wurtz; her sons Leo, Wayne, and Bryan; her daughters-in-law Brenda, Nida, and Gerri; her grandchildren Bradley, Cori (Tenille), Ward (Melissa), and Mark (Melissa); her great-grandchildren Mallory, Wyatt and Bronson; and numerous nephews and nieces.
The Funeral Service for Mary was held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. from St. Paul’s United Church in Saskatoon with Rev. Marjorie Keyser officiating. Interment followed at Langham Cemetery.
