She was born April 30, 1928 to Jacob and Margaret (Friesen) Goertzen in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan. She was youngest of a family of 5 sisters and 1 brother, and spent the early years of her life on the family farm.
She was married to George Goetz in 1950, and they were graced with 72 rich years of life together. Marjorie is survived by her loving husband George, and their children: Barry (Ruth) Goetz, Bonnie (Rod) Neufeld, Melody Goetz, and Elwood (Doreen) Goetz. She is predeceased by her daughter Brenda, who died shortly after her birth in 1953, and her granddaughter Michelle who died in 2018. She is also survived by 9 dearly loved grandchildren (and their spouses) and 8 treasured great-grandchildren. Of all George and Marj’s shared siblings, she is survived only by two dear sister-in-laws: Dorothy Goetz and Carol Boesma.
Marjorie had numerous gifts and interests - pretty much anything that was active and social. She loved her children, and her family life, she loved participating in the church community - hospitality was her "thing". Amid all this, her first and best gift to love and share, was music. She'd learned early about her gift of both singing and playing piano and organ, and honed them well. And so, over the years, her heartfelt dedication to her craft, and sparkling social energy led her into many avenues of joyful service. Her Christian faith was the wellspring for all she did, and so the numerous health concerns that dogged her path did not have the final word, but rather only deepened her compassion and care for others, and strengthened her determination to serve meaningfully.
Partnered by her husband George, her engagement in many facets of church and community life flourished and evolved. Innumerable potlucks and gatherings filled the house to capacity; there were seasonal celebrations, regular home Bible studies, prayer meetings and canasta nights. Marjorie played at innumerable services and events, weddings and funerals, and was known in Saskatoon as a pianist or organist who could be called upon in an emergency. She and George also assisted in helping international university students settle into prairie life, and also served at the Saskatoon City hospital chapel for decades - he as a porter, bringing patients to the chapel, and Marjorie singing and playing organ.
Together, Marjorie and George loved birding, and sharing the beauties of nature with friends and family. They joined dear friends in buying property south of Saskatoon so their children could have a farm experience; "Rolling Hills Ranch", with its wheat fields and horses grazing in pasture, offered the two families many good times. They also loved their trips to Hawaii, savouring the unique flora and fauna there. Her prayer life was rich, and she and George prayed daily and fervently for each member of their family, as well as for others.
In addition to playing for many weddings, Marjorie's music ministry evolved into a season of playing for funerals, and her pastoral heart often led her to sit with people before or after the service. When she and George reached their 90's, and it was time to move into supportive housing, she continued to play music as she was able, and to visit and prayerfully accompany numerous residents in the building.
Marjorie's vibrant, valiant, and deeply loving presence will be sorely, sorely missed.
The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care in every respect offered by Diamond House (Warman) administration and staff.
A Celebration of God's faithfulness in the life of Marjorie Goetz will be held at Dalmeny Bible Church, Saturday February 19, 2022 at 2 p.m. For those unable to attend please visit www.faithproductions.ca/livestream
In lieu of flowers, please consider being extra generous in sharing your own gifts and resources to help others. Marjorie knew that being generous could also be simply coming alongside someone in need and being a friend.
