July 7, 1963 – January 25, 2024
Larry George Walker (age 60) slipped away peacefully at his home in Saskatoon on January 25th, surrounded by the love and light of his closest friends. Larry was born in Regina July 7, 1963 to George Walker and Cecile Walker (nee Bernatchez) and moved to Saskatoon when he was 8 years old.
When he worked at A&W and Harvey’s Catering in Saskatoon in his early years, Larry met people who became his lifelong friends. He also met and married Shelley, with whom he shared some very happy years.
Larry had a passion for genealogy and photography, and spent many happy hours researching his Walker, Campbell, Bernatchez, and Kennedy roots. He worked on the Bernatchez pictorial history for 13 years, building on his uncle’s research. The University of Saskatchewan has accepted the collection into its Archives & Special Collections so that it is available to others.
Larry worked as a trucker and in the automotive industry for many years. He enjoyed listening to CBC and learning about social issues while driving across North America. While not on the road, Larry loved to work on the farm in Thrasher, Saskatchewan with his friend Rob and Rob’s parents.
Larry loved animals and had many cat and dog friends across the country who loved him back big. He also loved music and when he was younger played in ‘The Band’ with his brother Les and their friend Lee in his basement. Larry always had a strong sense of community, and could often be found shoveling for neighbours, chatting over the fence, or drinking tea with Joyce on her patio.
Larry was a considerate, thoughtful, gentle and extremely kind man who cared deeply about the world and brought out love and kindness in everyone whose lives he touched. He will be dearly missed.
Larry and his friends would like to thank Larry’s doctors who worked with him lovingly over the years to maintain his health, and his cousins who understood his journey with Myalgic Encephalitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). He would also like to express his thanks to the doctors and nurses at MAiD Saskatchewan, who brought him peace.
Larry was predeceased by his father in 2023. He leaves to mourn his mother Cecile, brother Les (Audrey), nieces Lyndsay and Alanna, Goddaughter Lesia, Godson Matthew, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There will be no service or interment at Larry’s request. His final wish is for us all to accept, love and support each other no matter who we are, who we love, or what we believe.
