July 17, 1948 – July 4, 2023
Larry Henton died July 4 after a valiant struggle with cancer just shy of his 75th birthday.
Born in Maple Creek July 17, 1948, he was the eldest of five children.
He is survived by his wife Margaret and son, David, as well as brothers Darcy (Debbie) Henton and Michael Henton, brother-in-law Gerry Bosch, and nephews Jesse and Shane Henton, Grant (Kristina) Bosch and niece Trudy Bosch. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Esther Henton, father-in-law Norman Edwards, mother-in-law Hilda Edwards, brother Jerome, sister Joanne Bosch, sister-in-law, Barb Henton, and nephew Jason Bosch.
Larry attended school in Maple Creek and Lampman before graduating Grade 12 at Zenon Park. He played trumpet in the school band and served in the militia, training in Estevan on weekends and Camp Dundurn during the summers. At age 17, he went to work for Federated Co-op Limited in Saskatoon where he trained as an accountant.
When his training was complete, he was dispatched to Nipawin where he started dating Margaret Edwards. They were married in Melfort on July 4, 1970 and had a son, David, on January 7, 1976. During his career as an auditor, Larry and his family resided in Whitewood, Wynyard and Raymore, Sask., Olds, Alta., and Hamiota, Man. before moving back to Saskatoon and Sunset Estates where he lived until his death.
Larry had a dry sense of humour and could mimic the rooster Foghorn Leghorn of the Bugs Bunny TV show. He liked to play card games like Canasta and board games and meeting friends for coffee down the street.
Larry never claimed to be a cowboy, but he liked cowboy boots and western apparel and listening to country music.
He also loved fishing, hunting, and camping and especially sitting around a campfire with friends and family.
A Celebration of his life will be held later this summer.
