Karen Muzika was welcomed into Heaven on Sunday, June 25, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband of over forty years, John Muzika. She leaves behind her daughter, Sonja, son, Warren (Alyssa), her adorable grandchildren, Madison and Max, and siblings Gordon (Grace) Dyck and Elsie (CK) Lai.
Karen was born on December 14, 1944, to Ed and Martha Dyck in Matsqui, BC. Her early years were spent on a dairy farm, but her parents, eager for new opportunities, moved first to Ontario, then to Three Hills, AB, before returning to the farm. Karen embraced this experience and thereafter was open to change, whether it be a new place to live, a new idea or meeting new people.
Karen attended Briercrest Bible School after high school. She stayed on at Briercrest, first working at the lunch counter and then as the high school girls’ dean. After Briercrest, Karen found her way to Prince George, BC, which is where she met and married John. They had Sonja there before moving to Calgary, where Warren was born. Further moves led to life in in Surrey, BC and finally, Saskatoon.
Karen was a homemaker, and her love of creating led to sewing clothes, discovering new decorating ideas, and trying the latest in craft trends. Church life was family life for John and Karen, and many times Karen’s decorating flair enlivened a church room or event. She was also involved in Bible studies, Alpha, and had a particular heart for women’s ministries, leading and teaching many women’s groups over the years. She always enjoyed young people and became known for her hospitality as church youth groups, Warren’s football friends, and whoever else needed a meal and a good conversation, were welcomed into their home.
As her health failed, Karen’s lifestyle simplified. She continued to enjoy reading, crosswords, and her time with her delightful grandchildren. She will be remembered for her openness, honesty, quick wit, and generosity. Her quilts and handmade bags can be found across the country, as she was always gifting someone with her latest creation.
Karen’s memorial service will take place on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 1:00pm at Acadia Funeral Chapel, 915 Acadia Dr., Saskatoon. Donations to Canadian Foodgrain Banks or Steve Bell/Signpost Music will be gratefully accepted. Arrangements are in care of Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306-978-5200).
