Joyce Marie Schmidt passed away on August 5, 2017. Joyce was born June 27, 1940, to Arthur and Kathleen Ford. She and her brother Bud were raised on a dairy farm. She always said she would never marry a dairy farmer, but that all changed when she went on a blind date with Wally Schmidt to the annual Milk Maid’s Ball. Joyce married her dairy farmer on June 27, 1959, and they built their life together as they took over Wally’s parents’ farm near Floral, SK. She became involved with her church and was a treasured friend in that community. Wally and Joyce were blessed with five wonderful children, who worked hard with their parents, doing all the things a dairy farm requires. Baking, cooking, and canning also took up a lot of her time. Her Christmas dinners, buns, and chocolate chip cookies were favourites of the family. Joyce loved her family and gardening, and approached both with a firm, but loving hand. As the family grew to include 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Joyce’s love grew to embrace them all. However, the love of her life was always her husband Wally. They provided a great example of a loving family. Joyce never complained and always put her family first. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Kathleen Ford; parents-in-law Paul and Ruth Schmidt; sister-in-law Hazel Mitchener; and brother-in-law Gilbert Schmidt. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Wally and their children: Judy (Kevin) Tomporowski and their children Jason (Aarin) Tomporowski - Vedder, Beckett, Kathleen (Jason) Kulyk – John, Megan (Dustin) Tomporoswki; Ron (Wanda) Schmidt and their children James (Christelle) Schmidt, Ryan (Aliesha) Schmidt - Cohen; Ken (Leslie) Schmidt and their children Laura (Warren) Richelhoff - Zoe, Parker, Alex (Nikki) Schmidt, JT (Nick) Schmidt, Justin (Josh) Schmidt; Dean (Karen) Schmidt and their children Rebecca Schmidt, Colton Schmidt; Cheryl (Jeff) Prediger and their children Ashley (Colton) Prediger, Kayla Prediger. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Breast Cancer Research. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Community of Christ Church (1st St. & Dufferin Ave.) in Saskatoon. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
