Josephine was born in rural Saskatchewan to parents Louisa and John Gruber. She was raised on a farm where there were always chores to do. Josephine married Steven (Berezowski) Barry, September of 1951. The couple welcomed four children, three daughters and a son: Audry Barry 1952-1994, Beverly Anderson 1954, Steven Barry 1960, and Celine Hall 1961.
Sadly, when Josephine was 29 years old, her husband, Steven, also 29, died suddenly. This left Josephine to raise the four children on her own ages 9 years, 8 years, 2 years, and 5 months. Josephine never remarried and lost her eldest daughter Audry in 1994. Josephine was a proud member of the St. Philips Neri parish and their choir.
Josephine will be forever missed by her three living children, seven grandchildren, (Lisa, Jody, and Jordan Barry, Ted, and Lesley Anderson, Kelsey, and Lucas Towstego), her eight great-grandchildren (Victoria Hoffmann, Kierah and Mya Barry, Grayson, Oliver, and Abigail Towstego, Isabel, and Clara Haines), Josephines’ remaining siblings Pauline Kryzanowski, Charles Daniel (Dan), Robert (Bob), and Maurice Gruber, predeceased by brothers Joseph, Frank Anthony (Tony), and Gordon Gruber.
The Vigil of Prayer at 7:00 pm on Friday November 11, 2022. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am on Saturday November 12, 2022. Both services will be celebrated at St. Philips Neri Parish (1902 Munroe Ave S, Saskatoon). Rite of Committal to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Warm ‘n’ Cozy Care Home and Porteus Lodge for the care and attention during Josephine’s stay.
Arrangements entrusted to David Polzen.
