June 5, 1932 – June 25, 2018
John Sawatsky passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife and sons, following a battle with dementia and cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Sue; sons Randy (Judy), Terry (Corrine) and son-in-law Bob Bender; grandchildren Darby Semeniuk (Lance Pollard), Jamie Wilson (Chris), Ryan Sawatsky (Andrea), Brent Sawatsky (Vanessa), Kasey McMahon (Patrick), Nikki, Randi and Jonathan Bender; and 6 beautiful great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his 3 sisters Mary, Anne and Agnes; and sisters-in-law Marge, Joan and Liz. He was predeceased by his parents John and Anna; daughter Melanie; sister Margaret; and brothers Pete, Henry and George. John was born and raised on the family farm near Gruenthal, SK. In 1952 he came to Saskatoon for work and started with Saskatoon Sand and Gravel, which led to managing Revelstoke Redi-Mix until his retirement. In 1953, he met Sue Peters, and they were married on July 30, 1955. Family memories are many, especially summers at the cabin at Sturgeon Lake, where all kids and grandkids were all taught how to fish and enjoy water sports. John made many friends, wherever he went. He always had a story or more to share, and always had a smile on his face. He will be missed very much. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor St.) in Saskatoon. The family would like to thank the nursing staff on 7th Floor at St. Paul’s Hospital for their compassionate care during John’s final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Unit (1702 – 20th St. W, Saskatoon, SK S7M 0Z9), or to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre (20 Campus Dr, Saskatoon, SK S7N 4H4). Arrangements in care of David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
