Ross was born in 1946 in Pangman, SK to T.D. and Margaret McKay. Ross attended school in Whitewood SK, before going onto high school in Wilcox, SK where he played football, baseball, and hockey for The Notre Dame Hounds. After high school Ross attended the University of Saskatchewan where he played a season of football for the Huskies before deciding university wasn’t for him and applying to the RCMP. Ross was accepted in December 1965 and graduated from Depot in June of 1966. Ross’ entire 30 year career in the RCMP was spent in ‘K’ Division – Alberta with postings in Gleichen, Calgary, Turner Valley, Red Deer, and finally Canmore where he retired as a Sergeant. Ross and Carol lived in Alberta for close to 50 years, where they raised their three children and made many friends before finally returning to Saskatchewan in 2015.
Ross was preceded in death by his daughter Shannon, his father T.D. ‘Mac’, his mother Margaret, his brother Murray, his brother Patrick, his sister-in-law Muriel, his brother-in-law Geoff, his brother-in-law Don, his sister-in-law Marion, and his sister-in-law Avonda.
Ross is lovingly remembered by his wife Carol, his daughter Dana (Doug), his son Ian (Kyla), his granddaughters Alexis and Madisson, his sister Sheila McKay, his sister-in-law Wendy McKay, his sister and brother-in-law Felix and Bernice Juzyniec, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff and management of The Sherbrooke Community Centre for their years of care for our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle. The family would also like to thank the staff of St Paul’s Hospital and Royal University Hospital for the wonderful care Ross received in his final weeks of life.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday March 11, 2024 at Sherbrooke Community Centre (401 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan).
