John Duncan

May 21, 1931 - July 20, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of John Duncan announce his peaceful passing at Preston Park Retirement Residence. John was born and raised in Delisle, SK, the youngest of 2 children to Elizabeth and Alexander, immigrants from Scotland. Delisle is where John met the love of his life, Trudy. They were married in 1957 and settled in Saskatoon where they raised 3 children, Sherry, Laurie and Jeff. He bought their first and only house in 1971 which he took great pride in and resided in for 50 years until the age of 90. John worked for the Saskatoon Public School Board as a head custodian for over 35 years. He loved his job and it was reflected in the fondness that students and staff expressed to him over the years. John was a wonderful man who always had a smile on his face. He had a gentle, fair nature. He was wise and kind, considerate and resourceful. When the family was younger, he loved taking them on summer camping trips and fishing. In their retirement years Hawaii became one of he and Trudy's favorite travel destinations. He loved the Riders, his old Dodge Monaco, curling and hockey, collecting coins and gardening. He cherished his friends. Above all, John cherished his family. He was a loving husband of 56 years. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Trudy (2013) and sister Margaret (2007). He leaves us to cherish his memory – Sherry (Bob), Laurie (Mark) and Jeff (Mary-Lou), grandchildren Erin (Daniel), Lindsay (Tyler), Ashley, Madison, Abby and great-grandchildren Hadley, Robbie and Jackson, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (627 Taylor St. E. S7H 1V9) in Saskatoon to be followed immediately by a light lunch and refreshments. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
