It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jessie Poleschuk on March 20, 2018 at The Central Haven Care Home. She is survived by her son Gary (Joonie), granddaughter Lisa (Wes), great grandsons Rander and William, sister in laws Annie and Mary. Jessie was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Matt, her parents Michael and Anna, and siblings John, Walter,. Jessie was born in Swanson, SK. When she was 10 years old the family moved to Delisle, SK. Then at the age of 13 the family moved to Saskatoon, SK. In 1944 she married Matthew Poleschuk. They were married by Rev. E Hritsina at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Saskatoon. In Jessie’s younger years her and her siblings took long, long walks to the Jensen Farm (Swanson) to attend Sunday school. It was up to Jessie to tell her mother everything they learned in Sunday school. During the War they stood on corners to collect money for milk for Britain. They also went to dances at the Ave. G Hall and the Legion. She met Matt at one of the dances at the Ave. G Hall. In Swanson school the children planted a garden which they all weeded and watered and were able to take the produce home once it matured. Jessie always said how much fun it was. Jessie started taking piano lessons in Delisle and continued lessons in Saskatoon. Later, receiving her grade 8 in piano from The Toronto conservatory of music. Her piano teacher also taught her how to knit. Her passions in life were singing, doing crafts, baking, cooking and sewing. Jessie loved to play cards with her friends and her nephew. She had such a fun sense of humor. One of her favorite sayings when a nurse would come into her room was “what’s up buttercup”! In her school days her favorite subjects were spelling and chemistry. Together Jessie and Matt enjoyed ally bowling and carpet bowling, they received many prizes. They made good use of their R.V., travelling across Canada several times, very much enjoying meeting new friends in the camp grounds. They also travelled extensively throughout the United States including Hawaii. Her first job was in a law office, she also worked for a dentist and a doctor and in the book room at Tech. Collegiate. When her son started high school she went to work at the Royal University Hospital as a ward clerk for 12 ½ years.
