Jean Isabel Bue (nee Macnab) was born on a farm near Mervin and raised in a loving, hardworking family of seven sisters and three brothers. Her parents, Catherine and Gordon Macnab, emigrated from Scotland. After finishing high school, mainly by correspondence because of the war, Jean attended Normal School in Saskatoon to become a teacher. Jean loved teaching and brought her love of children and great organizational skills to the difficult task of teaching multiple grades, big classes (52 one year) and sometimes cold classrooms. In 1950, Jean married a singing farmer from Cabri, Sigurd Bue. They were blessed with five children - Lea, Lynn, Heather, Gordon and Peter. Mixed farming is hard work, maybe nothing more intensive than when they had a dairy farm. Twice a day, every day of the year, the cows had to be milked, bottles filled and then delivered door to door in Cabri. Jean started teaching again the day Peter started Grade 1 and often drove the bus route to school. Her children saw how much she loved her students and was willing to learn new methods to help them be successful. The Lutheran Church was a guiding light and support for the Bue family. The women’s group, the ELW, remained a source of deep friendship and spiritual inquiry until Jean moved to Saskatoon in 2014. Jean was active in the community, including the legion and organizations that showed her concern for social justice, but also willing to cut up and have fun with friends and family. She started snow skiing and water skiing in her 40’s and broken bones did not deter her. Jean was also known for her bread and her cross stitch. Her fifteen grandchildren were deeply loved and this was a two-way street. Jean was hardworking and capable but what has had the most impact on others was her loving and accepting heart. Her love is deeply imbedded in our hearts and will be a guiding light as we move forward. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband Sigurd, grandson Jordan and many dear relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor St.) in Saskatoon. A Memorial Service will also be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Cabri, SK.
