October 4, 1958 - September 18, 2018
It is with deep regret we announce the sudden passing of Helen Susan Ross on September 18, 2018 at the age of 59 years. She was predeceased by her first daughter Kathy Jean, her father Robert Vogel, her grandparents Michael Vogel, Annie Hrdlicka, William Hrdlicka, Rose McGrath, her first husband Donald Ross, her partner Don White, and her son-in-law Colin Soucy. Helen was born in Weyburn, SK on October 4, 1958 to Robert and Virginia Vogel. They lived on the family farm near McTaggart, SK. At age 2, it was discovered Helen was deaf. When she was 4 years old, she stayed with the Robbins family and attended kindergarten with their children in Regina, SK. Helen then went on to both attend and live at the Saskatchewan School for the Deaf in Saskatoon from the age of 6. She travelled home by bus to the McTaggart Farm to visit often. She was a spunky child with a loving heart who was involved in brownies and loved all animals - especially horses and dogs. She genuinely loved her childhood pets - a horse named Spook and a dog named Bucky. Swimming was a favorite hobby, especially diving off the boards. At 14, she also received her first communion in Saskatoon. Helen married Donald Ross at the age of 18, and became a mother of four beautiful children Kathy Jean, Michael London, Michell Mimi, and Kathleen Jessica. She later separated then divorced Donald Ross. Eventually, Helen found companionship with Don White. Helen and Don remained together for several years in Laird, SK, until his passing in 2007. For a short time, Helen returned to Weyburn to live with her mother for approximately three years. They spent time together visiting, watching movies, and were involved in a bowling league. She later relocated back to Saskatoon, living out the rest of her days with roommates and friends she was very close to. Helen was well known in the Saskatoon deaf community and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to mourn her children Michael, Kathleen, and Michell and their children, her mother Virginia Vogel, her siblings Deb Pitre (Dan), Mike Vogel, Richard Vogel (Jeanne), Teresa Bohn (Ken) and Pete Vogel (Arlene), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Helen's life touched the hearts of all who knew her, and will be dearly missed by many. A Memorial Service will be held in Weyburn, SK and will be announced at a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Saskatoon Friendship Inn.
