Growing up on the farm near Domremy and then helping with the family store and butcher shop, Harvey learned the value of hard work and knowledge. A dedicated life-long learner, he completed his Bachelor of Education and went on to pursue his Master’s in Education. For over 30 years, Harvey was a French-language teacher and consultant in Saskatoon high schools. After retirement, he transitioned to the Official Minorities Language Office, where he continued to support second language learning in Saskatchewan.
Harvey met and married the love of his life, Kathleen Moker, in December of 1961. The couple built their lives on a strong foundation of faith, and this nurse and teacher created an amazing marriage bond forming a strong family with their children and grandchildren: Murray; Michelle (Behzad) and their children Daryan, Aron, and Sara; Greg (Angela) and their children Marie, Sophie, Lauren, and Luke; and Laurie (Troy) and their children Ashley, Cole, Josh, and Amanda.
Every summer, for 54 years, Harvey cherished his time at the cottage at Wakaw Lake with extended family. A self-taught ‘Harvey’ of all trades, he repaired many appliances and did a tremendous amount of renovation and woodworking, including many projects for Holy Spirit Parish. His faith was his bedrock; it suffused every aspect of his life and was apparent in his involvement in community efforts including Christian Family Movement, Serena, Family to Family Ties, and Lay Formation Retreat Team.
Family was most important to Harvey, and he was happiest when surrounded by his loved ones. His loss leaves a huge hole in the Chatlain family. While we all grieve his passing, we cherish the beautiful example he set and celebrate the many blessings he brought to our lives.
