It is with profound sadness that the family of Evelyn Eng announce her peaceful passing on Thursday, March 3, 2016. Evelyn was born in Canton, China, where she grew up and met her future husband, Jim. They were married in 1956. Jim immigrated to Canada and settled in Maple Creek, working in the restaurant business. Evelyn soon joined him. In 1958 their first son William (Bill) was born, followed by a second son, Wayne, in 1959. Jim and Evelyn continued putting in many long hours working in the restaurant until 1964, when the family moved to Shaunavon, SK. Jim became a partner in the Shawnee Restaurant, where Jim and Evelyn worked until they became the sole owners of Eng’s Restaurant. During this time, Evelyn learned to play golf, and there were many days where one would find the two of them playing a round of golf after the restaurant closed. She won many golf tournaments and proudly displayed them in her “trophy” cabinet. When people commented on her golfing prowess, Evelyn would chuckle and say, “Nah, just lucky.” Such were her humble ways. With Jim’s passing in 1993, Evelyn retired, sold the restaurant, and moved to Saskatoon. In retirement, Evelyn passionately pursued many interests. She continued golfing, enjoyed gardening and producing the most bountiful vegetables which she shared with family and friends, and at times, led animated conversations with her coffee buddies. She was an avid Rider and Hilltop fan. But most of all, Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She spent tireless hours at her husband’s side in the restaurant business and at the same time, raised two outstanding sons, both of whom she was extremely proud. She supported Bill’s incredible passion for teaching and coaching, going to as many games as she could. When Wayne became ill, she visited regularly, staying faithfully at his side in the hospital. She cheered loudly watching every one of her grandson’s hockey games and proudly watched all of her granddaughter’s piano and dance recitals. Her family was her pride and joy. She will live in our hearts forever. Evelyn is lovingly remembered by her son Bill (Pauline) and their children Jeremy and Brittani; daughter-in-law Patti Frasz; grandson Matthew; brother Chow Lee and family; brother Yuen Lee and family. Evelyn is predeceased by her husband Jim; son Wayne; mother Tong Nu-Sen Lee; father Li Kong Lee; sister Lee Yan-Gee Zhang.
