Ed was born in Mullingar, SK in 1936 to John and Aganetha Giesbrecht. He spoke German in the home with his Mennonite parents and later learned English. His work ethic and desire to care for his family led him to his career at Wright’s construction. Ed was a concreate specialist and worked on multiple structures throughout Saskatoon. His most memorable works include Kiwanis Memorial Fountain and Eastend Historical Museum located in Eastend, SK.
Ed loved fishing, hunting, and going to the family cabin at Lucien Lake. He loved nothing more than to spend time with his family. Whether it was feeding chickadees at Pike Lake, roasting hot dogs in the backyard or simply enjoying a ride in the countryside Ed always loved being surrounded by family. He took pride in teaching his grandchildren games such as Chinese checkers, go fish and crokinole. Ed collected many keepsakes over the years and found value in the simplest of things. His love of cooking highlighted his giving nature. When Ed cooked you knew he put his heart into it. His famous dish was Summer Borscht which was always delivered by hand in a mason jar.
