The passing of Doris Amelia Pope occurred peacefully at her residence, Extendicare Preston, on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011, at the age of 94 years. Doris was born in the Victor District south of Saskatoon on October 10th, 1917. She attended school in the Patience Lake and Floral Districts. Doris married Bert Pope in 1938. They farmed in the Floral area where they raised their four daughters. In 1962 they moved to Saskatoon, later retiring to Emma Lake, then back to Saskatoon. Doris worked hard helping Bert on the farm and was one of the first ladies in the district to obtain a driver's licence! She produced large vegetable and flower gardens. Doris was very active in Floral community activities, including being a leader in the Floral Homecraft Club. She sewed for her girls and especially made sure each had a new outfit for the Christmas concerts! She supported her daughters in all of their activities. She liked to knit and made toques, mitts, scarves and sweaters for her family. Doris was an avid quilter. Her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews in the U.S. and across Canada proudly display quilts she made for them. Doris was a member of the Floral Homemakers' Club for over 70 years. Many happy hours were spent with her Homemaker friends, including times at the Club's quilting bees when quilts were made for wedding gifts or for the annual Floral Community Picnic. Doris is survived by her four daughters, Peggy Agar (Jim) of Floral, Patricia Sigtema (Jon) of Prince Albert, Beverley Andres (Charles) of Saskatoon, and Linda Kenyon (Jim) of Lone Rock. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Debra Gibson (David), Michael Kenyon (Diane), Douglas Kenyon (Julie), Elaine Klyczek (Earl), Donald Agar (Carmen) and Steven Kenyon; and 14 great grandchildren. Doris is also survived by her sister Marjorie Olson (Stanley) of Burlington, ON, and sister-in-law, Margaret MacMillan of Sardis, B.C., and other relatives. Doris was predeceased by her husband Bert (2002), brothers Russell and Lorne, and sisters and brothers-in-law Evelyn (Jack), Elsie (Henry), Gertrude, sister-in-law Norma Ulrich (Gustave) and brother-in-law Paul Pope (Kay). The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Extendicare Preston for their compassion and wonderful care of Mom over the past nine months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Family Support Group Extendicare Preston, 2225 Preston Avenue, Saskatoon, SK, S7J
