Donald Lyle McCrea was born on May 29, 1927 in Melfort, SK and passed away on October 9th, 2020 in Saskatoon, SK. Don spent most of his years around Melfort and Snowden, SK. He worked for the town of Melfort during seeding and worked for farmers in the surrounding area during Harvest.
Don met a lady by the name of Grace on a blind date, where Don’s smile and twinkle in his eye caught her attention. Don McCrea and Grace Oakley were married on November 15, 1957 in Choiceland, SK at the United Church. They lived in Nipawin, SK for a couple of years where Don worked for Happy Drader with the Nipawin School Unit. In June of 1959 Don and Grace moved to Saskatoon, SK where Don worked in construction for several years until he got employment with the U of S campus as a caretaker. Don spent 26 years there until his retirement in June of 1992.
On his retirement, Don enjoyed taking care of his lawn and washing windows for the elderly living in their homes and apartments. He also enjoyed going for walks at the local mall where he would meet up with his friends for a coffee, talk about the old times, and tell a good joke or two. Don was predeceased by his father Roy McCrea, mother Ellen, two infant brothers, five brothers Harvey, Clifford, Len, Howard and Ray and two aunts.
Don leaves to treasure his memory, his loving wife Grace, sons Larry (Shelley), Albert (Maire) and Harold (Terry). Don was a dear grandpa to Crystal, Thomas, Sarah, Bryan, Jason, Shantelle and Amanda. He had 11 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter who loved to sit on his knee or show him things they were capable of doing. He is also survived by his brother Gaylord (Reanie) of BC and sister-in-law Geolina of Melfort, SK aunt Ida of Choiceland, SK, sister-in-law Thelma Krutcho of Edmonton, AB and many nieces and nephews.
Dad, our love and remembrance of you will never end and we will always hold you close in our hearts.
