With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bart Baker on July 22, 2018. Bart was predeceased by his parents Dave and Bernice (nee Drake) Baker. Bart was born on August 11, 1957 in Saskatoon and was raised in the city and his nearby family farm. In his youth, Bart, although quiet and unassuming, loved fast cars and partying. Through friends, he met the love of his life, Brenda. They were married on October 8, 1983. When he found out he was going to be a Dad, he grinned from ear to ear. He very much loved and was proud of his daughter, Meaghan, and his wife. Bart’s love of cars and farming lead to dual careers. He was a parts installer at Grandwest by day and an owner/operator of a small family farm by night. Throughout his careers, Bart was known as an honest, trustworthy, helpful, and knowledgeable worker. These qualities not only described him as a worker, but also as a neighbor and friend. He attracted many long-time friends who collaborated and celebrated with him in good times, and brought him joy and comfort in hard times. When Bart wasn’t working, he enjoyed chipping away at a never-ending to-fix list around the farm. He also enjoyed taking his wife, Brenda Beck-Baker, on “dates” to buy farming supplies and having family dinners with his wife, daughter, and son in-law. He valued time with animals and had a tender spot for his pets, always saving them something from the table, as well as his livestock, for whom he cared deeply. He also enjoyed vacations at Emma Lake with his family and friends, where for once a year, after delaying the trip to get the hay up late, he would finally set aside working for watching movies and relaxing on the deck. Even as his health declined, he retained his optimism and still found joy in humor and spending time with his loved ones. Bart is survived by his wife Brenda Beck-Baker, daughter Meaghan Baker (Craig Hoehn), sister Brenda Baker, as well as many aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Bart’s Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor St.) in Saskatoon. The Interment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation (#1 - 345 3rd Ave. S., Saskatoon, SK S7K 1M6). Arrangements in care of Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
