It is with heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, grandson, nephew and friend, Barry Gibson, at the age of 20 on Friday, May 24, 2024. Barry was born in Regina, SK, on March 28, 2004.
Barry's love for aviation was a defining part of his life. His numerous trips with his father to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Edmonton, various Rocky Mountain parks, and the grandparents' cabin at Jeannette Lake nurtured this passion. He eagerly took lessons with local flight companies and became an avid plane spotter. His dedication was evident as he would spend entire days at the airport, observing and photographing aircraft in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Toronto, and Calgary. His most recent plane-spotting adventure was on May 21 in Toronto.
Barry was fascinated by vehicles. Even in the early grades, he wanted to visit all the car dealers and collect vehicle brochures. His knowledge of brands and features was outstanding, and it really came in handy when he landed a job in the automotive industry.
From a young age, Barry's heart belonged to hockey. He actively participated in minor hockey and summer ball hockey for several years, with his favourite position being goaltender. His on-ice experiences fostered a deep understanding and love for the sport. His knowledge extended beyond the NHL, encompassing the AHL and junior leagues. He was a dedicated fan, attending NHL games in Edmonton, Toronto, Arizona, Tampa, and Anaheim.
Two years ago, Barry embarked on a successful career at Kia of Saskatoon, a path that perfectly aligned with his passion for vehicles. His unwavering commitment to learning and hard work quickly made him an invaluable asset in the dealership. Last year, his exceptional contributions were recognized when he was awarded Employee of the Year. But his impact was not just measured in awards, it was felt in the hearts and minds of those he worked with. His dedication, his knowledge, and his kindness made each of his colleagues feel not just appreciated, but integral to the team.
Barry was a genuine, kind, and caring person who was always there to help when needed.
The family is thankful for the excellent care and support of the staff of the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon and the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.
Barry will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his father (Derek Gibson), grandparents (Barry and Hilda Gibson), aunts and uncles (Heather Gibson, Brian and Betty Gibson, Mike and Lisa Gibson), cousins (Tayler Gibson) (Jessie and Sam Gibson), (Jarett and Carlee Aschenbrenner) and (Bryan Andres), friends, and work colleagues.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted to a charity of your choice in Barry’s memory.
A Celebration of Barry’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday June 4, 2024 at Acadia Funeral Centre (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon). For those unable to attend please visit https://youtube.com/live/NrkD3Fyow_Y?feature=share to view the service.
