BOEHM, Alice – It is with sorrow, but also gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the death of our mother, Alice Boehm. She passed peacefully at Samaritan Place on February 18, 2024 surrounded by family. Alice was born in the Bruno district on January 12, 1928. She attended St. Ursuline Academy in Bruno and Normal School in Saskatoon, beginning a nine-year teaching career when she was only seventeen years old. Alice met Edwin Boehm when she taught at schools in the Allan area and they were married in 1954. Alice and Ed were true partners, farming and raising six children southwest of Allan. Alice had a particular love for her large vegetable gardens, which always seemed bountiful whatever the weather. It was a busy life, but Alice always had time to support her community and church as a school board member, reader and active member of the Catholic Women’s League. Once her children grew up, Alice returned to substitute teaching at Allan School. Alice and Ed retired to Saskatoon in 1992. After Ed’s death in 1999, Alice continued to live in their home and enjoy many good years as the center of her family. When she was ninety, she moved to her final home and community at Samaritan Place, where she received very kind and compassionate care. Despite some very difficult times, such as Ed’s death at age 72 and a breast cancer diagnosis, Alice’s strength, faith and resilience allowed her to recover and face the world with a smile.
Alice was predeceased by her parents Henry and Theresa Greuel, husband Edwin, sisters Marie Dyer, Helen Koob and Edna Weninger, brothers Ben Greuel and Leander Greuel; sister-in law Elsie Greuel, brothers-in-law Arnold Koob, Emil Weninger and George Steckler, niece Brenda and nephew Henry. She was also predeceased by Edwin’s family members, parents Jacob and Eva Boehm, sisters Doreen Senger and Helen Senger, brother Ernest Boehm, sister-in-law Kaye Boehm, brothers-in-law Ed Senger and Gene Senger, niece Colette and nephew AJ.
Left to cherish her memory and missing her smile are: daughters Marie (Warren Eilers), Beverly (Rob Krysko), Bernadette (Sean Gilliland), Colleen; sons Robert (Gretta) and David (Korene); thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Florence Steckler; sisters-in-law Bernadette Greuel, Verna Boehm, Marlene White and brothers-in-law Jack (Erna) Boehm and Ray (Diane) Boehm, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
