June 10, 1950 – April 3, 2021
It is with broken hearts that we announce that Al passed away with his beloved wife and children by his side after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. If you knew Al, you knew that he lived life to the fullest. He was the first to meet new people, to laugh and to invite you in for a drink. His love of farming has been passed to his son and grandsons who will continue to run the family farm. Al loved to be outside. In the summer you would find him riding his motorcycle, camping or kayaking at Waskesiu during the family week we would have there the end of June. He also enjoyed having a campfire or swimming at the farm on a hot day. In the winter, he loved being at our ski trail. He would set the trail, perfecting it before inviting family and friends to join him for a ski and then a fire. The things he loved the most he passed on to those he loved the most, his grandchildren. Teaching them to taste for different spices in his cooking, to listen and appreciate all types of music, to smell rain or the first rounds when cutting hay. His love of music, cooking and making people laugh are just some of the things we will remember most as the stories are being told, and there are lots of stories about Al.
Al is reunited with his parents Alfred and Flora and his father in law, Bert. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen, his children Trent (Cindy) and Carmen (Derek), grandchildren, Tanner, Avery, Reid, Makenna and Porter, brother Ervin, sister Trudy (Bruce), brothers-in-law Gary (Nancy), Terry (Mel), Scott (Tracy) and Lorne (Christina), sister-in-law Wendy (Ray) and his mother-in-law Iona. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and too many friends to mention.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff in Palliative Care at St. Paul's Hospital. There will be no funeral service at this time, a private family burial will happen at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Viscount 4-H Beef Club Box 58, Meacham SK S0K 2V0 or St Peter's Cemetery Box 75, Meacham SK S0K 2V0. Arrangements in care of David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
