William H. "Scoop" Pemberton, 87, Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Vestal, N.Y. passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 15, 2012 surrounded by his wife, Claire O'Connell Pemberton and four adoring children, Bob, Judy, Mary Beth and Cathy. He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Katherine Doyle, and his sister, Dorothy, all of Bloomington, Ill. He shared his endless love with his daughter-in-law, Kathleen; son-in-law, Peter; cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Andrew, Patrick, William, Daniel; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Vestal, a graduate of Trinity High School (Bloomington, Ill.), Illinois State University, and a retired employee of State Farm Mutual Insurance after 50 years of service. He was an active community volunteer with over 50 years of proud service to the Sertoma Club. He also devoted his time to the Binghamton Boys and Girls Club, The Newman House, St. Vincent De Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Meals On Wheels, and coached many sports teams throughout his life. He led his life with unquestionable faith and dignity and believed bestowing charity throughout his community was his privilege because of his many blessings. An accomplished athlete and tireless sports fan, he took great joy introducing his children to all things sports. He absolutely loved having six grandchildren with whom he could start the process all over again. He worked tirelessly throughout his life on behalf of his family, as they were his greatest love and joy. He greatly cherished his many deep friendships and reveled in his ability to make them laugh.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Vincent De Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal, Saturday, February 25 at 12 p.m. The family will receive friends at Barber Funeral Home, 428 Main Street, Johnson City. Friday, February 24 from 6-8:30 pm.

A memorial service will be held in Sarasota, Florida at a later date.
