Valerie (Val) Wallen, 96, of Venice, Florida, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side.
Born and raised in Groveton, New Hampshire, she is predeceased by Robert (Bob) Wallen, her husband of 73 years. She is survived by her son, Jack Wallen (Linda) of Rochester, NY, daughters, Gail Knight (Ray) of Williston, FL, Nancy Viggiano (Frank) of Venice, FL, and Donna Perry (Dan) of Kenmore, NY. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer), Rachel (Michael), Christopher (Maureen), Eric (Monica), Alex, and Valerie (Ron), 8 great-grandchildren, and nieces, Teri Woodward, and Jana Marshall of Groveton, NH.
After graduating from Groveton High School, Val attended North Hampton Commercial College. She worked for the U.S. Post Office in Groveton, NH and then moved to Washington, DC and worked for the War Department during WWII. Val and Bob married in 1944 and started their family after Bob returned from serving in the Army in Europe. They lived in Falls Church, VA and Buffalo, NY before retiring to Venice, FL in 1978. Bob and Val travelled to Mexico, Ireland, Great Britain, Hawaii, Jamaica, and through the Panama Canal. Val loved walking on the beach, watching sunsets, spending summers on Maidstone Lake, VT, volunteering at Venice Library, and visits from her family.

A memorial Mass at Epiphany Cathedral and interment at the Sarasota National Cemetery will be held at a future date.
