Robert Ray Rogers, 88, born December 18, 1931 and raised in Missouri, moved to Sarasota, FL in January of 1980, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 12, 2020. Ray was born in Delta MO to James L. Rogers and Mary Bell Goddard Rogers, in the Cape Girardeau, MO area and was the last survivor of his 10 siblings (including his twin). Ray graduated from high school in 1950 from Campbell MO and attended Southeast Missouri College. Drafted into the Army in 1952, he served his country for two years during the Korean War. Ray worked as an Air Force engraver for NASA, as a senior drafter, providing aeronautical charts between 1955 and 1965. He settled in St. Louis, MO where he mastered his entrepreneurial skills as a nursing home administrator, owning and operated nursing homes from 1965-2014. In 1980 he moved to Sarasota, FL to retire, only to find himself a successful real estate investor – with multiple opportunities, including the occasional neighborhood development, ALF, and mobile home parks. Ray was an avid softball player, who participated in numerous senior softball (Huntsman games) and won multiple world series. He is survived by his children Donna Rogers Disbro, Keith Rogers, and Scott Rogers; and preceded in death by his son Barry Rogers. The joy of his life was his family, including his nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Ray Rogers adored his family, and in his words, “I have the greatest family in the whole world – my kids, my nieces and nephews”. Throughout his life he continued to share the love of Jesus with everyone he met. He will be laid to rest during a private burial service at the Sarasota National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the Tabernacle Church (4141 Desoto Rd, Sarasota, FL 34235) on January 9th, 2021 at 1pm – all are welcome to join as we celebrate the life of Robert Ray Rogers.
