Richard Joseph Haase, 81, passed away peacefully in his Sarasota home on Friday morning, surrounded by family. Richard is predeceased by his parents Charles and Kathleen Haase and his brother Charles Haase Jr.
Richard was born in Manhattan, NY to Charles and Kathleen “Kitty” Haase, and was the youngest of three children; brothers Charles and James. Richard attended St. Anne’s Academy High School and graduated from Manhattan College. His first job out of college was with the Naval Air Test Center, Patuxent River, MD. He enjoyed a short career with the CIA designing communications equipment, which gave him the opportunity to live and travel to countries such as Turkey, Germany, and Israel. He retired from Lockheed Martin/L3 Communications after 33 years where he worked as a Senior Principal Engineer.
In 1955, he married and had four children, Richard Jr., James “Jim”, Christine “Tina”, and Peter. Post his wife Christine Peña’s passing, Richard was blessed to have found love again and married Jeanette Eyster in 1996. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He had a very successful and rewarding life. Richard especially loved spending time with family and friends. He displayed tremendous bravery during his short battle with lung cancer and will be fondly remembered for his gentle caring nature, charming personality and great sense of humor.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Jeanette, of seventeen years; children Richard Haase, Jr., James Haase, Tina (Don) White, Peter Haase, Tena (JR) Wilson, Bobby (Charlotte) Walkup; brother James (Anna Marie) Haase and sister-in-law Patricia Haase; grandchildren Donald (Christine) White, Theresa (Christopher) Hoegstrom, Tyler White, Andrew Haase, Caitlynn Haase, Jennifer, Coby, and Missy; great-grandchildren Mia, Ben, Travis, Alex, and Halle; and many nieces and nephews; all of whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will be held at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home on Friday, December 13th from 4-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday, December 14th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard’s memory to Tidewell Hospice.
