Ray was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. One of Ray’s passions in life was motorcycles, which he rode since a young man. He was a member of the Christian motorcycle group, “Redemption Paid in Full” where he was known as Rayzor. He had a great love for old western movies and fantasy fiction books such as George R.R. Martin.
While living in CO, Ray worked as a Barber. Not until moving to Sarasota, FL did he find his true love of work in maintenance. He retired from New College in Sarasota, FL where he was Physical Plant Supervisor. He was also a talented artist, woodcraftsman and “tinkerer.”
Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a kindhearted man with a great sense of humor (sometimes ornery). His greatest passion in life was his family and he will be greatly missed by all.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Lois McVay of North Port, FL; son, Mitch (Lisa) Hansen of Corsicana, TX; daughters, Michelle (Pat) Ireland of North Port, FL and Serena McVay of Englewood, FL; sister, Teresa (Gary) Blair of Clovis, NM; one niece; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. McVay, Sr. and Eva M. (Horner) McVay; brother, James E. McVay, Jr.; and niece, Mary L. Stewart.
There are no services scheduled at this time.
