Paul moved to Sarasota, with his family, to the Pinecraft area in 1948. He attended Sarasota High School. Paul proudly served his country as a member of the US Army. While serving his country, Paul married Maxine J. Slusser. They were married for over 60 years. Paul retired from EMR (and its many name changes) after 32 years of work. Paul joined St. John’s United Methodist Church in 1973. Paul truly loved his church and church family. He held many leadership positions within the church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife Maxine Shetler; brothers, Robert Shetler, Lavern Shetler, Atlee Shetler, Willie Shetler; and his sisters, Nettie Kurtz, and Edna Mae Scheufler. He is survived by his sons, Wade Shetler, and wife Amy of Clearwater, FL, and John Shetler, and wife Emma Montgomery, and granddaughter Audie Mullins of Sarasota. In addition to his sons, he is survived by his brothers, John Shetler, and Mike Shetler; his sisters, Betty Ray, and Dena Shetler Hartzler.
A funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 6611 Proctor Rd., Sarasota, 34241. The service will be proceeded by a visitation from 10-11am. A committal service will be held at 1pm at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave., Sarasota, 34232.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial donations be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church.
