Otto was part of the lunch/coffee group at MSU Libraries, he always had wonderful stories. It was a joy to go to the cafe and see him sitting there; it always brightened the day. He will be very much missed.

Otto was an esteemed colleague who I worked with at the Department of Forestry, Michigan State University beginning in 1974. He was always friendly, helpful, and willing to talk. I loved his hearty laugh. I especially remembered the 2-week trip through the southern states with our forestry students (1976, I think); we were the chaperons. Otto always was up to the challenges that inevitably occur on such a trip. I also have fond memories of being instructors at  spring forestry camps at Ketunnen Center, which Otto enjoyed immensely. He taught wood science and I silviculture. I saw him last at his house in East Lansing  where we reminisced and had a beer. He will be missed.

Otto Suchsland was my advisor during my Ph.D. study and always a very good friend. It is just like yesterday when I met him in his office at Michigan State University (MSU) on July 18, 1985. After he retired we had regular coffee and bagel hours at the cafeteria on MSU campus which I will always remember. I am privileged  that I spent 10 plus years with him during my  career. I had many good memories with him and dear Hildegard. Both are very loved by many. My condolences to  dear Helga, Eric and all family members.

Otto Suchsland has been a big part of my life (and subsequently)  my family’s life, for as long as I can remember. Otto and Hildegarde have been like a second set of grandparents for my children as well as very dear friends to both Jeff and I. I am so grateful that we were able to spend some of his last days with him here in Sarasota, but know that his absence in our lives will be felt for a long time to come. God speed, Otto. You are so very loved ❤️
