Oscar H. Schachter passed away peacefully at his home in Sarasota, Florida on June 5, 2023. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 25, 1933. He was beloved by his wife, children, his immediate and extended family, his many friends, his colleagues. He leaves behind his wife, Amy Schachter, his children Charlie Schachter and Susan Weissman (Susie) and four grandchildren, Dayna, Samuel, Eden, and Nicholas. Oscar attended Yeshiva schools and graduated from Yeshiva University. He received a full academic scholarship to Harvard Law School, graduating in the class of 1957. He worked as an attorney for Stanley Warner and then joined Advanced Computer Techniques as Executive VP and Secretary in 1966. In the 1990s, Oscar began a private practice, providing legal counsel to technology companies. He also supported many Jewish causes and was a founding board member of American Friends of Yahad In Unum. In 2016, he traveled to the Ukraine with Yahad to collect video testimony regarding the holocaust. A joyful traveler with a passion for Paris, a lover of classical music, an intellect, avid reader and above all, a considerate and engaged person, husband, father and friend, he will be missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know him.
A graveside service for Oscar will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232. Following the graveside service will be a reception at 4:00 PM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park.
