Nestor attended Brooklyn College and Florida State University. He also served in the United States Air Force for four years. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Nestor was a Computer Technologist with Merrill Lynch and was a member of their Quarter Century Club.
Nestor was a wine enthusiast who enjoyed making Sangria and spicy onions for hot dogs. He also loved reading, travelling, and baseball “Let’s go Mets”.
Nestor was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Rivera and Inocencia Escalera; brothers, Vicente, David, Jose, Pablo, Daniel, Ruben and Eliseo; and sisters, Tomasa and Josephine.
He is survived by his wife, Pilar Maldonado Rivera; children, Nestor Jr (Nancy), Edward (Evan), Jaime, Yolanda (Vance), Erick (Debra) and Maria (Joe); brother, Samuel; sisters, Esther and Noemi; grandchildren, Venessa, Erica, Jacquline, Gabriel, Jaime Jr., Chelsea, Dylen, Alexis, Tali Rose, Shayna, Autumn Rae and Ella; great-grandchildren, Leilani, Dominic, Milani, Elijah, Ziyah, Aria and Nubia.
A funeral service for Nestor will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 11:00 am, at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home, 170 Honore Avenue, in Sarasota. A committal service with military honors will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery, at 1:30 pm.
