Manuel (“Buck”) Vincent, 93, of Sarasota, FL, died Apr. 20, 2012. Buck was born in Fall River, MA, to John and Gloria Vincent.
A graduate of BMC Durfee, Northeastern University, the Naval Academy and MIT, he went on to a distinguished 31-year career in the US Navy as a Naval Engineer/Naval Architect, serving mostly overseas. It was during his first tour to Brazil that he met his wife, Elza (Garrido). They were married for over 56 years.
During his years of service, Buck received the Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal; Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star; Brazilian Navy Medal for Distinguished Services; Brazilian Order of Naval Merit; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Order of the Sacred Treasure (Japan); American Defense Service with ribbon; American Theater Campaign Medal; WWII Victory Medal; Navy Occupation Medal (post WWII-Japan); UN Korean Ribbon; Korean Medal; National Defense Service Ribbon; Pacific Theater Ribbon; Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star.
Buck was predeceased by his beloved younger brother, Dr. Gilbert Vincent. He is survived by his wife, Elza; daughter, Sheila Ann; brother Theophilo (Albertine); sister-in-law, Alice; dear friend, Lydia Landa; and numerous nieces and nephews, both here and abroad.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 25th at 9:30am, at Church of the Incarnation, Sarasota. Burial will be at the Sarasota National Cemetery, with full military honors.
