Dr. Carlozzi was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 9, 1935, to Italian immigrants, Luigi and Esterina (nee Sceppa) Carlozzi. Lou entered into eternal rest in Sarasota, Florida on June 11, 2023.
Lou passed peacefully with his beloved wife of more than thirty years, Deloris “Dee” Brock Carlozzi by his side. He was a loving Father to Louis (Jennifer) Carlozzi and Annette (Kenneth) Lowe and loving Stepfather to Tiffany (Patrick Belcher) Panhuis and Tami Panhuis. He was a proud Grandfather to Louisa (Nicholas) Nini, Grace Lowe, Molly Lowe and Mia Carlozzi. Lou is survived by his cherished Sister, Antoinette (Edward, deceased) Pinkowski. He is survived by special nieces, nephews, and cousins too. Lou was predeceased by his Parents, and his other Siblings, including Brothers, Pasquale, and John.
Lou graduated from The Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve University, School of Dental Medicine, before serving in the United States Navy, as a Dentist, in Okinawa, Japan and Chicago, Illinois. In 1962 after their Naval Service, Lou and his Twin Brother, John, returned to Cleveland to build a dental practice on the East Side of Cleveland, beginning with an office on the first level of the family home. He also taught dentistry at Case’s School of Dental Medicine. The practice, Carlozzi Dental, expanded, and continues to flourish, now under the guidance of his nephew, John Carlozzi.
Lou enjoyed traveling throughout his life. He visited Italy frequently with his family. As a child, he visited with his Mother and Siblings. The Twins explored the family towns of Matrice and Campolieto, balancing mischief with service---They helped to build the current clock tower in Matrice, Italy.
He and Dee traveled the U.S., Italy and many other European destinations on countless adventures via plane, river cruise, hiking trails and even the occasional horse. Dee joked that she could get “Louie” or “Luigi” to go anywhere in Europe, but she always aimed to get him back to his beloved Italy for a few days before flying home. He kept in touch with his cousins in Italy, visiting them last to introduce them to his Granddaughter, Mia. He kept in touch with those cousins that settled in Massachusetts too.
Lou and Dee enjoyed hosting family in Sarasota and Siesta Key. Those visits often began with a stop for lunch at Captain Kurt’s for a cup of Lou’s favorite clam chowder and a meal on a frisbee for the kids before enjoying the white Siesta Key sand. Throughout the visit, Lou would plan and prepare delicious meals, welcoming his family to help in the kitchen too.
He loved to tackle a home remodeling project too. He helped his family with countless projects from kitchens to bathrooms and beyond. And, Lou was an avid golfer, beginning with a childhood job as a caddy and later playing for years at his home courses, The Tanglewood Club in Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club in Sarasota, FL.
His family is touched by the outpouring of heartfelt condolences and support. A small celebration of life will be held in the Fall of this year at Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Details to follow.
