Loraine Zuckerman, a sixteen year resident of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on May 30, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born May 28, 1936, in Scranton, PA, and went on to earn her BS degree in Nutrition at The Ohio State University and her MS degree at Case Western Reserve University. She met Alan, her loving husband of 56 years, in Cleveland, Ohio. Alan and Loraine moved to Maryland where they raised their three sons. Loraine had a long and varied career that included several executive positions, including Head of Nutrition Services, at the National Children’s Center in Washington, DC. She was also among the first nutritionists in the DC Area to establish a private consulting practice.
Loraine had a wonderful time traveling with Alan to a variety of destinations in South America, Europe, and the Middle East. However, her greatest joy was interacting with her children, grandchildren and extended family. Loraine was also an accomplished cook and baker and especially enjoyed preparing meals for holiday celebrations; her favorite holidays were Passover and Thanksgiving.
In addition to Alan, Loraine is survived by her children, Gary (Cynthia), Ken (Jonathan), Brian (Elizabeth); her grandchildren, Caroline and Alexandra; and her brother, Selig Strassman (Faye). Loraine was predeceased by her parents, Samuel Strassman and Mae Strassman, and her sister, Anita Strassman. The funeral service will be held at Temple Emanuel, 151 McIntosh Road, at 2pm on Friday, June 3. Internment will follow funeral services at 3pm at Palms-Robarts Memorial Park, 170 Honore Avenue. A reception will follow at The Sarasota Bay Club, 1301 North Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.
