Kathleen "Kathy" Grace Young

Born on January 25, 1943, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Kathy eventually settled in Sylvania, Ohio with her devoted husband Tom, whom she married on September 10, 1968, in Honolulu, Hawaii during Tom’s R&R from his tour of duty in Vietnam. Kathy and Tom recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary and built a beautiful life together filled with immeasurable love, countless blessings and cherished memories. Kathy was the proud mother of three loving daughters: Barbara Gerdenich (husband Kurt), Deborah Ellis (husband Tom), and Amy Owens (husband John). Kathy cherished her six grandchildren, Scott, Mary, Matthew, Christopher, Thomas and Audrey and took immense pride in her beloved family. Kathy is also survived by her twin sister Barbara Jacob of Scotch Plains, New Jersey and brother Richard Jacob of Dallas, Texas as well as many nieces and nephews.

Kathy touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth, joy and kindness. Her memory will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Kathy’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to her many close friends and dedicated caregivers who provided support for her, particularly in her last difficult years of life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Kathy’s memory to the American Heart Association.

Kathy’s family will hold a private memorial service, and she will be laid to eternal rest at the Sarasota National Cemetery on November 22, 2023.
