It is with great sadness that the family of Kathleen Caldwell Boyette announces her death on December 14th at the age of 74 in Sarasota, FL. Kathleen was preceded by her mother, Reva Myers Caldwell; father, Dr. Delma Wells Caldwell; and sister, Julianne Caldwell DeRienzo.
Kathleen was born in Chicago, IL on May 20th, 1946. Her family moved to Westfield, NJ where she resided until attending college at Ohio Wesleyan University, Wagner College, and University of Madrid, Spain, graduating with a B.A. She later attended the Middlebury College Graduate School of Spanish in VT and Madrid, Spain, graduating with her Master’s Degree. She continued her practical education in Barcelona and Mallorca, Spain, teaching English, working in import-export, working for a charter airline, and then a real estate agency. She returned to Sarasota, FL in 1981 where she worked in law enforcement and taught Spanish. After studying addictions, mental health and child development, she worked for nonprofit agencies for many years, eventually retiring from the State of Florida Health Department.
Kathleen loved learning, foreign languages, classical music, scuba diving in the Mediterranean, hiking in the Rocky Mountains and Alaska, reading and traveling. She was a strong advocate of healthy pregnancies and babies. She was also a strong supporter of the US Marine Corps alongside her husband, retired SGM Edward Boyette.
Kathleen had a bright, lively, independent personality, a strong maternal instinct, and a deep love of her family. Kathleen is survived by her husband and best friend of 36 years, Edward Boyette; son, Dr. Anthony Llorens (wife Tara) of Long Island, NY; daughter Reva Llorens of Sarasota, FL; stepchildren, Leslie Boyette and Jessica Lopresto of Tampa, FL; 6 grandchildren; brother Edwin Caldwell (wife Carole) of Sarasota, FL and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.
Kathleen will be buried in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held this Saturday, Dec. 19th at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home, Palms Memorial Park, at 11 am.
