Born June 9, 1915 in Mississippi, Kit was one of 6 children of Hosea and Beulah Holcombe of Senatobia, Mississippi.
Katherine was a beautiful, multi-talented woman who contributed much to her community over her many years.
She worked with the Red Cross during world war II years in Jackson, MS. Later, during 1953- 1965 she lived in Birmingham, Alabama and was active in the Birmingham Women’s Civic Club, serving as their president several years. She was also very involved in real estate there and in Tenn. until moving to Sarasota in 1978, to reside on Siesta Key.
Katherine was a member of the downtown Sarasota 1st Baptist Church, whose members visited and kept close contact with her during her time at The Inn.
She is survived her two children, Mary Benson Vaughn of Sarasota, Arthur C. Benson of Tampa, grand-daughter Karen Vaughn of Houston, TX and other relatives from Mississippi.
A celebration memorial of her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 11-2 pm at Wiegand Chapel, 7454 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34231. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church, 1661 Main St., Sarasota, Fl 34236
