Judy Poage went to her eternal home on September 24th 2024. Judy was born on November 1, 1945, in Altus, Oklahoma, and later made her home in Yukon, Oklahoma. She was a beacon of love and faith, sharing God's grace with everyone she encountered. Judy had a deep passion for helping those in need, a calling she lived out through every chapter of her life.
Her journey of service began as a Bible school teacher at the Indian Baptist Church in Elk City, Oklahoma, where she nurtured young hearts and minds in faith. When she moved to Oklahoma City, she and her beloved sister Milly started a homeless ministry, tirelessly gathering and distributing necessities to those without. Their acts of kindness became a light in the darkness for many, reflecting Judy’s boundless compassion.
Later in life, Judy found another avenue for her giving spirit when she began working with the Heartland Council of the Blind, where she contributed to the community with her characteristic warmth and energy.
Judy also thrived as an Oil and Gas Landman, a career that brought her much joy. She embraced the complexities of the industry and loved being a part of that world, making meaningful connections along the way.
More than any job or role, however, Judy cherished her family. As a devoted mother, she nurtured her children with love, patience, and wisdom. Her heart was fullest when she was surrounded by her grandchildren, whom she adored more than words can express. Known affectionately as “Grandma Judy” or “Nana,” she relished every moment she spent with them, watching them grow and delighting in their laughter and love.
Judy was preceded in death by her mother, Jessie Sorrels, her father, Charles Sorrels, her sisters Helen Stephens, Audrey Gough, Lorene Trollanger, and Mildred McEver, and her brother Gilbert Sorrels. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
She is survived by her loving children, Martha Myers, Kimberly Gottsponer, Tommy Gottsponer, Lori Jackson, and Chris Jackson, along with her cherished son-in-law, Brian Ransome. She also leaves behind her beloved stepchildren, Susan Elliott and Charlie Poage, and a legacy of love through her grandchildren: David Watson, Jessica Phillips, Zachary and Stacia Harmon, Tyler and Jordan Shamburg, Alyssa Ransome and KJ Lemons, Forrest Ransome, Joshua Shamburg, Stephen and Kim Gotspooner, Alexys Jackson, Hailey Poage, Addis Poage, Jessica Elliott, Katie Mattison-Anthem, and Tanna Mattison.
