Joseph Paul Boyd (Joe), age 70, passed away on December 17, 2022 at his home in Bonita Springs, FL with his family by his side. Joe was born on July 8, 1952 at Patuxent Naval Air Station, Maryland to Paul and Mary Boyd, and was brother to Patricia Utt, all who predeceased him.
Joe is survived by his wife Heather Reeves-Boyd, his two sons Paul Boyd of Carrollton, TX (wife Megan) and William Boyd of Riverview, FL (wife Sarah and daughter Ava), stepson Isaiah Reeves of Tampa, FL, stepmother Billie Boyd of Springfield, VA and previous wife Catherene Boyd of Garner, NC (sons Paul and William) and extended family. Joe was a first-time grandfather to Ava Catherene Boyd, who was born December 5, 2022.
Joe graduated from Annandale High School (Virginia) in 1970 and began his career by enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he served as an Electricians Mate aboard the USS Proteus, USS Hunley and USS L.Y. Spear. In 1976, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as an Air Traffic Controller and in 1978, Joe graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps. Over his military career, Joe had assignments in Guam, Washington, Georgia, North Carolina, Italy, Hawaii, and Virginia. After 20 years of service Joe retired as a Major in the Army Signal Corps in 1992.
Joe was hired by Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in 1992 as a computer systems analyst and was promoted to Senior Executive Service in 2002. Joe was very proud of his efforts and contributions to the Command and Control data networks to help U.S. warfighters across the world. Joe finished his career with CACI and finally By Light, and created many lifelong friendships, which he cherished, throughout his career.
Joe earned his Masters of Science in Management at National-Louis University and a Bachelor of Professional Aeronautics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Joe was extremely outgoing and was a go getter type of person. He had a passion for his work and excelled at creating his networks. He also loved to tell stories, many of which he embellished, but at the core he loved bringing people together and making others laugh. In his early days of fatherhood, Joe was very involved in his son’s activities and took to their passions by coaching baseball and hockey, though he had never ice skated a day in his life. Joe also had a passion to be outdoors and active through his plethora of cars, motorcycles and boats, and he always appreciated a good sunset on the beach.
We can now rejoice that he is reunited with his loved ones in heaven, who have gone before him.
