SGT Jose L. Sanchez, age 41 of Germantown, Maryland, passed away August 30, 2016. He was born June 17, 1975 in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela to Noris Raquel Martinez Sanchez and Luis Augusto Sanchez Saturno. Jose attended Elementary School (Escuela “Las Paecelas”), Middle School (“Unida Educativa Simon Bolivar”), High School (“Liceo Militar 4 De Agosto”), and College (“Instituto Universitario Militar De Comunicaciones y Electronica de las Fuerzas Armadas). SGT Sanchez enlisted in the US. Army on May 30, 2008. He completed Basic Combat training in Fort Knox and Advanced Individual Training in Aberdeen Maryland, where he was awarded the Military Occupational Skill Identifier 91D. SGT Sanchez was then assigned to 4-10 Mountain Division in Fort Polk Louisiana on Nov 2008 to Feb 2010. In Feb 2010 to Mar 2013 he was assigned to 1-1 ADA, in Okinawa Japan and in Mar 2013 to Feb 2016 he was assigned to 66th MI Brigade in Wiesbaden Germany. SGT Sanchez was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon Overseas Ribbon and the Certificate of Achievement. Jose loved soccer and his favorite team was Madrid. He also enjoyed working out and staying fit. Jose Luis Sanchez was a loving husband, father, son, brother and a loyal friend. He was persistent and determined and always achieved what he set his mind to. He was loved by so many, especially his wife, Raquel Rivera; his sons, Luis Eduardo Sanchez-Belisario, and Gabriel Andres Sanchez; his daughter, Adriana Santa Sanchez-Rivera; his father, Luis Augusto Sanchez Saturno; his siblings, Luis Augusto Sanchez Loyo, Norilu Coromoto Sanchez Martinez, Dayana Carolina Sanchez Juarez, Yennifer Coromoto Sanchez Batista, Johnna Paola Meza Martinez, and Karolina Coromoto Sanchez Batista. He is preceded in death by his mother, Norilu Raquel Martinez Sanchez. A funeral for SGT Sanchez will be on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 12pm at Robarts Arena Potter Building; 3000 Ringling Blvd in Sarasota. Visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at 11am. Interment will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery.
