John L Hunter, 90, of Venice, FL, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2018 following an injury and brief illness. His wife of 31 yrs, Jini Mount Hunter, daughter, Susan Hunter Chynoweth of Englewood, FL, and step daughter, Lisa Simone (Aidan Murphy) Machamer of Sarasota, FL, were at his side.
His passing is also mourned by his daughters, Martha Hunter and Sara Hunter (William) Horsman , both of Massachusetts, and son, John (Rona) Hunter, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL. John also leaves behind a sister, Nancy Brohm, and eight grandchildren, Kathryn (Sean) Rudisill, Kristopher Chynoweth, Fayth Kestenbaum, Chelsea Hunter, Liam Horsman, Shane Horsman, Oisin Murphy, and Kian Murphy, as well as one great granddaughter, Lydia Rudisill. He is also survived by Mary Jane Hunter, mother of his children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jahu and Helen Hunter of Gowanda, NY, and his brother Robert Hunter.
John was born July 26, 1927, in Rochester, NY. He was an Army veteran. John worked for General Motors as a personnel manager in Rochester, NY, New York City, NY, and Detroit, MI. He also spent several years each in Tehran, Iran and Nairobi, Kenya, helping to open plants for General Motors. He greatly enjoyed traveling, skiing, scuba diving, and boating. He was also an wonderful ballroom dancer along with his wife, Jini.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 4 until 6 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am on Monday, January 8, 2018. Both will be held at Palms-Roberts Funeral Home in Sarasota. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
