Joan Seyler Rosenberg- loving wife and mother passed away peacefully on December 12 at the age of 88. She was born in Brighton MI on July 11, 1930 and became one of Sarasota’s early “snow birds” traveling between Sarasota and Michigan during summers and winters. The family resided in a bayside home built by her great grandfather in 1908, a home that still exists today. She will be dearly missed by all that new her and especially her family which she loved with all her heart.
She graduated from Sarasota High School and promptly married her high school sweetheart. The two eloped secretly in Georgia and then surprised their respective parents (who were not thrilled!). The couple moved to New York where she worked as a bookkeeper until she gave birth to her first child and soon after, in 1955, her husband was drafted into the army for a two year tour of duty.
After their tour in the service they settled in the Washington DC area where they raised their family of three children. They returned to Sarasota in 1972 where she again took up her bookkeeping work for her husband’s home building company.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Jerry; 3 children, Wendy and son-in-law Reed Grimm of Jacksonville, Barbara and son-in-law Joe Passalacqua of Boulder, CO, a son, Richard and wife Kathy Holton of Sarasota and a sister, Bette Turner of Pensacola. There are three grandchildren, Christopher, Ashley and Amanda, a beloved pug named Tucker, a niece, Laurie Ognian and a nephew, David Turner.
There will be a celebration of life at the Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Wiegand Chapel, 7454 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota on Saturday, December 15 at 1:30 PM. A private interment will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery early the following week.
In lieu of flowers her wishes were for a donation to the Humane Society of Sarasota or the National Humane Society. Her love for animals was only second to her family!
