Formerly of Binghamton, New York, Joan was a resident of Sarasota since 1956.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lewis, her beloved grandparents, Genevieve and George Francisco, and her mother, Doris McGill.
Joan is survived by her son Michael of Sarasota, daughter Jill Graves and husband Mike of Port Charlotte, daughter Tracy Gorski and husband Brian of Sarasota, and son Lewis L. and wife Melissa of Bradenton. She has 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Joan was a dental assistant and a bookkeeper before marrying her true love, Lew Osborne and moving to Florida where she was a wife, mother and homemaker. Joan liked working as a volunteer and helping others. She was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary where she was a past treasurer and coordinated many successful fundraisers for the Aerie. In 2002 Joan was honored as the Aerie’s Mrs. Eagle of the Year. Joan enjoyed fishing and camping, kicking up her heels on the dance floor to her favorite polka and going on trips with Lew. As a family we were blessed and honored to have a mother who loved us without fail and worked tirelessly to raise 4 children and provide us the lessons we needed to succeed in life. In doing so Mom has left us with a lifetime of memories to treasure. She will be forever in our hearts.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Joan’s name to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Aerie 2756 or the local Make-A-Wish Foundation.
A service for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 20th at Noon at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Drive, followed by a celebration of life.
