Brille, Joan Ellen January 1, 1933 – October 20, 2017 Joan Brille, aged 84, passed away suddenly at her home in Sarasota, FL, on October 20, 2017. Joan was born in Chicago, IL, to her parents Robert Hasman and Margaret Stich Hasman. She attended University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and Wilbur Wright College in Chicago, where she met her beloved husband Bernard J. Brille, Professor of Mechanical Engineering. They were married in 1959 and spent 53 happy years together, until his death in 2012. After living in Riverside, IL, for 26 years, they retired in 1990 to Sarasota, FL, and built a home in Deer Creek, where they lived ever since. For the last 15 years, they summered in East Hampton and Southampton, NY, to spend time with their children and grandchildren. Joan is survived by her two children, Brian Brille and Maureen Brille, and four grandchildren, Isabella Brille, Colette Brille, Pierce Brille, and Sabrina Brille, all of New York, NY. She also is survived by her two brothers, Robert Hasman of Cumberland, WI, and Kenneth Hasman of Spring Hill, FL. Joan was a devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother. She will be remembered for her bright smile, beauty (inside and out), youthful vigor, twinkle in her eye, eternal optimism, selflessness, generosity, wholesome good nature, artistic talent, and zest for life. She loved playing tennis, riding her bicycle, taking long walks, water color painting, and playing board games with her grandchildren. She will be missed immensely by her family and friends. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 3-5pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home at 7454 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34231. A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 425 S. Tamiami Trail, Osprey, FL 34229. She will be buried with her husband at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Osprey, FL, and The Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton, NY.
