Jeanne Aimee de Winter (née Blum) passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, in Sarasota, FL, at the age of 92. Born on March 31, 1932, in Paris, France, she was the daughter of Maurice Blum of Alsace Lorraine and Marie Aimee Blum (née Le Quement) from Brittany.
Jeanne's early career was marked by her service to the U.S. Army in post-WWII Paris and later at Hughes Aircraft Company, where she met her future husband, Rene Andre "Ronald" de Winter. The couple moved to Saigon in 1965, where Jeanne opened a jewelry and gift shop on the Officers Club on the top floor of the Rex Hotel. After leaving Saigon post-Tet Offensive in 1968, Jeanne and Ronald lived in Hong Kong and the Canary Islands before settling in Sarasota in 1979. A devout Catholic, Jeanne was a parishioner at Incarnation Catholic Church. She is remembered for her profound patriotism, intelligence, wit, and worldly sophistication. She never forgot the debt owed to the servicemen who helped liberate Europe from Nazism.
Jeanne is survived by her son, Laurent; daughter-in-law, Claire; and grandchildren, Sophie and Max de Winter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald de Winter. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34232. Jeanne's life and legacy will be cherished by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
