Jean Rice Means, 96, passed away on September 26, 2024, in Sarasota, Florida. A former resident of Big Run, PA and Punxsutawney, PA, Jean has lived in Sarasota for the past 15 years. Jean was born in DuBois on September 6, 1928, to Eschol and Helene (Leilich) Clyde. Her brother, Richard, preceded her in death.
After graduating from DuBois High School, she married James Rice, also from DuBois. He preceded her in death in 1989. They had two children: Rebecca and husband Stephen White, who recently moved from Colorado to Sarasota, and James and wife Diane (Blose) Rice who live in Woodbridge VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren in Colorado: Chris and Erin White and Pat and Jenny White, and great grandchildren Taylor and Jacob White. Additionally, she is survived by her grandson, Shawn and wife Nikko Rice, in Pennsylvania, and their children, Braden, Cassidy, and Halle Rice, and her grandson Todd and Nina Rice, in Virginia, and their children, Theodore and Sofia.
She worked at the Big Run National Bank for many years.
Jean later married Robert Means from Punxsutawney and was quickly and lovingly embraced by his family: Susan Means Moran and husband William (deceased); Randa Means Bonsall and husband Fred; Amanda King, daughter Madison King and husband Scott Effting, Nathan King, wife Lealand, and children Asher and Delphine; Michele Means and her children Aoife Iredale, Clinton Iredale, Austin Iredale and wife Maia Pecci; Stephen Means and wife Barbara and their family, Kyle Means, wife Melissa and daughters Mackenzie and Samantha, and Matthew Means, wife Alexandra and son Sebastian ; and, Daniel Means and daughter Lily Means Kondel, husband Michael Kondel, and son Glenn.
Jean was a member of the Punxsutawney Country Club and has been a long-time member of Palm Aire Country Club, enjoying golf and playing bridge. She was very social and made friends easily, while enjoying all the activities at both clubs. She and her companion, George, enjoyed traveling, the arts, social activities, and entertaining.
A graveside service and burial will be at Morningside Cemetery in DuBois at a date to be determined.
