Jay was born in Rockford Illinois, on February 19, 1951, to Dwain and Beverly Marquette. He graduated from John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois. In 1972 the family moved to Florida and became long-time residents of the Sarasota/Bradenton area. Jay’s parents had a dental practice in Sarasota and Bradenton for many years. Jay graduated from Trinity Bible College in Dunedin, Florida and worked in ministry at several churches. He married in 1976 and had four children.
Jay became a master plumber and in 1992 started his own plumbing business, Jay D. Marquette Plumbing in Bradenton, well known for the ducky on the side of his truck. His work displayed artistry and perfection. He faithfully served his many clients until he retired early 2023.
Jay had a great love for the Church and serving Christ, especially working with kids. He volunteered as an Awana leader in various churches for 25 years, long after his own children had graduated from the ministry. He enjoyed doing Bible magic shows, reading Bible stories to his children and grandchildren, and singing them hymns. He loved creating beautiful memories with his family: enjoying treasure hunts; beach combing; going out to dinner; watching movies; going bowling; and playing goofy golf.
Jay was preceded in death by his grandson Tyler Marquette, his parents Dwain and Beverly Marquette, his Uncles Gary and Gayle, and his nephew Weston. They are joined together in heaven praying for all of us, walking on streets of gold, and singing with the angels.
Jay is survived by his children Charity Marquette of Hendersonville, NC, Sarah (Wesley) Kvasnikoff of Kenai, AK, Jonathan (Jenna) Marquette, and Laura Marquette, both of Bradenton. He is also survived by: his grandchildren, Macy, Joey, Sara Ava, Greyson and Selah; great grandchildren, Liam and Harper; brothers, Craig (Lynn) Marquette, Brian (Debbie) Marquette, Brent (Renee) Marquette, sister, Diane (David) Elliot; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
We invite anyone who knew Jay to join us for a Celebration of his wonderful, spirit-filled life! A Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 18, 2023, from 3 to 5 PM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home, Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Avenue, Sarasota, Florida 34232.
