Jay is a retired US Army Warrant Officer 4, who served our great nation for over 34 years. Throughout his military service, he participated in the late stages of World War II as a Merchant Marine, and served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War as an Army Officer. Among his distinguished awards, Jay was awarded the Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Upon retiring from the military, Jay worked as General Manager of Sarasota Yacht Club and later owned and operated a local business, the Liquor Locker. Jay was a member of the local Shriners of Sarasota and the Classic Car Unit.
Jay enjoyed riding his classic car “Willy,” attending parades, going on cruises, and cooking.
Jay is survived by his wife, Florence Calkins Arnold; his children, Charles (Monika) Arnold, Lisa Crissman, and Stanley Arnold; his step children, Tina (John), Denise(Tom), Sheila(Jeff), and Paula (Andre); his brothers Bobby (Lou) Arnold, and Clay Arnold; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Frank, Daniel, Christopher, Andre, Jocelyn, Rachel, Mitchell, Connor, and Shailyn; many great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Winfred Arnold, and Beulah (Lou) Berrigan; his late wife, Lorraine Moore; and his sister, Velma Opperud.
A funeral service for Jay will be on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 11 AM, at Palms Robarts Funeral Home; 170 Honore Ave, in Sarasota. Interment will follow at Palms Robarts Memorial Park, where military honors will be rendered. Visitation will be June 15, 2016 from 5-8 PM at Palms Robarts Funeral Home.
