Jane was born and raised in Kenosha WI in 1940 to Harold T Crutcher and Lois Egholm. She was a life long learner and started by receiving her Associate of Arts, 1978 from Johnson County Community College in Overland Park Kansas, Bachelors of Arts in 1979 (summa cum laude) from Avila College in Kansas City Missouri, Masters of Science in 1983 from University of Kansas in Lawrence Kansas and completed over 60 hours of post graduate courses.
Jane had a passion for children and education and through her life was very involved in several pursuits; her successful 30-year teaching career and professional achievements came with being a devoted mother raising a family of three, being involved in the Boys and Girls Club along with other community activities.
Professionally she was President of the Blue Valley Teachers’ Association, Belonged to Kansas Association of Middle Level Educators and made presentations at state conferences, Received several awards and recognition for children including the district award for Excellence in Education, Served on several Site Based Leadership Councils and served as Chairperson on several councils, Prepared Pleasant Ridge Middle School and Leawood Middle Schools for Quality Performance Assessments by the Kansas State Department of Education, Served on many district curriculum committees including the math adoption committee and the science adoption committee, Served on several district future goal-setting committees, Attended professional development conferences outside district to keep current on new teaching trends and strategies while mentoring new teachers and student teachers.
Jane lived for the pursuit of a ‘bargain’ and would relish telling hours of stories to her friends and family how she had identified, pursued and ultimately conquered the opportunities. She was known as a consummate home “do it yourselfer” taking on every imaginable project, only openly recognizing she couldn’t do anything electrical. Two things we would always hear from Jane; ‘The things you don’t want to do are the things you should be doing”, “Learn to say ‘yes’, it moves you forward, saying ‘no’ is too easy”.
Jane became the women she envisioned, and so much more. In her richly lived and celebrated life, she became the corner of undying support, enthusiasm and joy. She was a stranger to no one and friend to many. It is truly difficult to convey the total essence of Jane and all the lives she touched, her personality was infectious, she made everyone laugh, she touched everyone’s life she came in contact, she was wife, mother, friend, educator, mentor, entertainer, artist, photographer, gardener, dressmaker, puzzler, reader and passionate about travel. Our loss is truly incalculable.
Jane continued her community involvement with being a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Member of New Floridians and being a Volunteer Teacher at Summerset School in Bradenton, FL.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Harold Schiferl of Sarasota FL; siblings Harold Crutcher of Scottsdale AZ, and JoAnn Sabol of Brookfield WI, loving children, Lori Dahl of Newport Beach CA, Michael Holohan and his wife Tina of Sarasota FL and Patrick Holohan of Sarasota FL and his fiancée Shannon Furstenberg; cherished grandchildren Sarah Dahl, Joseph Dahl, Kellie Holohan and Katie Holohan.
