Jim served in the United States Navy during WWII. He moved to Sarasota in 1973 as a supervisor of Key Packaging. He owned a lawn service company for 10 years.
Jim was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, District Deputy, and Chairman of five committees for the Gate. He was also a member of BPO Elks.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Mary; a daughter, Patricia and her husband, Jon “Jack” LeMahieu of Madison, WI; a son, Thomas Dieckhoff of Sarasota, FL; three grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and caregiver, Christy Brown.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 9:30 AM at Incarnation Catholic Church, 2901 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL 34239. Interment will follow at 11:30 AM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, 34241.
